Bear Creek Gratuity Policy

This is a very important notice to all attending our wedding. As I mentioned in my 3/6 blog, I am pretty unhappy with our choice to get married at Bear Creek. At this time it is too late to change is as we would lose a great deal of money that has already been invested. Also, it would be pretty tough to find another venue on such short notice. We have been noticing more and more ways that the owners of Bear Creek Lodge are somewhat shady. It usually has to do with the cost of renting the lodge and all that goes in to it. For this reason, we need every guest to know that no matter how long you are at Bear Creek, whether it is for the entire weekend or just a few hours, DO NOT TIP for anything!!! Do not tip for any food, drink, or any other service you might receive while you are there. This comes from a long-time waitress so you know that I am aware of the value and importance of tipping more than most. We are asking that you refrain from tipping because Bear Creek is insisting that Matt and I pay an 18% gratuity on every detail of our wedding. We will be covering the tip on every meal, every room, the facility rental, even the WATER! Because of this and because of all the trouble these people have already caused us, we are asking you not to tip any extra on anything.

When it comes to alcohol, Matt and I will be reviewing our budget when the date gets a little closer and we have paid off all the vendors. At this point we will make the decision as to how much alcohol we can afford to pay for that will be provided free to those of you who choose to drink any. Once again, we will have already covered the tips on these drinks as well so there is no reason for you to drop anything into a jar.

BIG WARNING: Once our open bar runs out Bear Creek will begin providing a cash bar. It is at this point that you need to know that you should not open a tab. If you plan on continuing to consume after the open bar runs out (which could be soon with the way Bear Creek keeps gutting us) you should ONLY PAY WITH CASH! Sam (the owner) has told me that anyone who opens a tab at the bar will automatically be charged 18% gratuity and tax on their tab. When or if you choose to open a tab or buy drinks on your own it will be up to your discretion as to whether or not you would like to tip but Matt and I both urge you to refrain. We will be tipping on items where it is not customary to tip at all. I guarantee that all employees will make quite a bit off the gratuity that we are paying on our own. Regardless, you can choose your own tip amount, be it 0 - 20%, if you pay with cash.

Please help us out by spreading this information around to anyone you know that may be attending our wedding but does not read the blog regularly. Feel free to remind other guests before and during the wedding reception.

My intent is not to sound angry or vengeful. My purpose for posting this information is just to make sure that none of you lose money unnecessarily. Also, I think it is important to have a say as to how much you would or would not like to tip a person for a provided service. Matt and I do not have that say. Now you do.
