I love that I finally have things to post about. So much that I decided to split today's blog into two separate posts. I already wrote about my dress shopping experience but things are just happening so quickly that I couldn't leave it at that.
The newest biggest development is our deejay, Keith Havens. Matt and I have gone back and forth so much about music. At first, we were completely set on the idea of having an IPod wedding. We would come up with our own playlist and we wouldn't have to deal with the Chicken Dance, YMCA, or some weirdo stranger telling random stories that no one thinks are funny. We would hire some high school kid who's involved with his/her school's Media Club to just watch and make sure everything goes smoothly and that would be that. It started to become an issue when we were venue shopping because we needed to find a place with WiFi so I could use my Rhapsody account and have all that music I only pay a monthly fee for. Next problem, my father-daughter dance song isn't on Rhapsody.Plus, I almost _always_ have some sort of technical difficulty with Rhapsody. I could already see the stress that I'd be experiencing building and we were still 8 or 9 months out.
Matt and I started discussing a deejay about a month ago and decided we would take a look around. Live music was never an option because our taste in music is too varied. We attended a bridal show together but there was only one music service there. While we were waiting to visit with them we took a look at their brochure. Not exactly what we had in mind. The photos of the deejay were of him wearing crazy clown getups and loud, colorful, poofy wigs. Don't get me wrong, I want our reception to be a party. We just prefer a slightly more tasteful party... not a circus.
Then, last weekend, there was a message from heaven; more like a message from my dad I guess. Dad has a friend and fellow radio-worker name Keith Havens and he had called him to ask Dad about deejaying his daughter's wedding in January. It was then that Dad mentioned that I too was getting married and maybe they could make a trade. Dad gave him my e-mail address and I heard from him soon after when he offered to deejay our wedding for FREE!!! It's so perfect. Matt and I feel great about it. Keith's brochure doesn't have any crazy pictures but it does have testimonials from people who commented on his willingness to work with their specific tastes. Since the music is something I am so picky about that was a huge plus for me. We're not exactly how sure the ceremony and reception will last so Matt and I decided to offer to pay Keith $100/hour after the first 3 hours of the reception. We don't want to take his offer for granted and make him work all night for nothing. Regardless, it's just an awesome blessing that couldn't have come at a better time.
These developments have made me feel more and more motivated to get things done for the wedding. We just past the 7 month mark and I love that there's still quite a bit of time but I'm getting things done so early. Matt and I are sending out our save the date cards as early as next weekend. We are just waiting on vistaprint to send us a couple more invites and then we're on it. I also bought our cake-topper the other day. I'm so motivated today I might even start addressing envelopes to get ahead. Wow! I hope this lasts and I don't crash 2 or 3 months before the actual wedding!
