Will you...?

Picture
I love this story. Unfortunately I have no pictures to go along with it so I'll just have to do my best to describe what happened. This picture is what the cupcakes you'll read about looked like.
It was Monday, March 8, and I was getting ready for another day at school. There was a lot going on that week including Parent Teacher Conferences and Classified Week. For the Classified staff we were putting on a potluck lunch on the following Tuesday. Before I left for work that morning I was discussing with Matt my plans for making some cupcakes for the potluck. I had decided earlier that I was going to make some sunflower decorated cupcakes from the Hello Cupcake book. However, I had changed my mind that morning and wanted to go with some simpler cupcakes that wouldn't take hours upon hours to decorate. After informing Matt of my plans I left for work.
Later that day, Matt called me while I was on my lunch break. He told me about his day that far and let me know that I didn't need to stop at the store to pick up anything for the cupcakes because he had already gotten everything for me. I asked him whether he was referring to the cupcakes I told him I was making this morning or the ones I had picked out the weekend before. Of course, he had gotten everything for the sunflower cupcakes. I was SO frustrated! I gave him a hard time about not listening to me and definitely let him know how annoyed I was.
Once I finished work I left a little early so I could get a start on the cupcakes that I didn't want to make. I got home and Matt greeted me commenting on how early I was. I made some snide remark about how I had to get home because I was going to be spending all night decorating cupcakes. I wasn't totally mean, though. I also noticed that he had straightened up the house so I mentioned it and let him know I appreciated his work. He replied that if I thought that was good then I should look in the oven. I knew that he was going to pre-bake the cupcakes for me so that all I had to do was decorate them. I went to see them and found much more than that. Matt had decorated all 24 cupcakes for me. He had worked on them all day. It took 5 hours. I was so impressed that it brought tears to my eyes. I know that decorating baked goods is far from one of Matt's interests so the fact that he had done it for me meant _so_ much. We sat down together and I made the ladybugs while we chatted.
Soon after Matt told me that he had another surprise for me. He took out my guitar and put his new capo on. He often practices songs and shows me what he's learned so I sat back to listen. At first, Matt had a difficult time with the song. He kept trying to start it and messing up. I offered him a couple minutes to practice which he originally dismissed but then quickly changed his mind. I laughed and left the room. Minutes later he called me back and started again. That was all it took because everything was perfect from then on. Matt began to play Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline which is a song we both love. Then, surprisingly, he started to sing too. This is something I've always asked him to do but he constantly tells me that he can't multitask like that. The next surprise was a change in the lyrics. Sweet Caroline became Sweet Sarah of Mine. =) Who would have guessed... more tears!
When the song ended I told him how much I loved it. Then, Matt told me how much it made him think of me and what it meant to us both. The sweet talk continued which I will leave out to spare him the embarrassment (like I haven't already done enough). Finally, Matt got down on one knee and pulled a ring out of his pocket. He asked if I would do him the honor of becoming his wife and I accepted. It was the happiest day of my life... so far.
